Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the plans for the December 5th Calvert City Christmas Parade have been changed. The parade will be a stationary parade to be assembled for viewing at the parking lot of the Calvert City Doctor’s Park located at 123 Park Road behind city hall at the baseball park in Calvert City, KY.
Parade entries are requested to assemble their floats beginning at 4:45 p.m. and maintain social distancing. Judging will take place at 5:30 p.m. with viewing beginning at 6:00 p.m. continuing until approximately 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas Trees and Memories” and all entries are asked to keep this in mind when constructing their floats.
If parade units plan to distribute candy it must be bagged and distribution must be done by those wearing masks and gloves.
Cash prizes for parade entries in the amounts of $150 for 1st place overall, $75 for 2nd place overall, $150 for best use of lights and $150 for best depiction of parade theme on a float will be awarded.
The Calvert City Lions have also introduced a new category and will award a cash prize of $50 to the best use of lights on a golf cart entry.
Parade drive-by viewers should enter Park Road between the library and the civic center. Viewers must remain in their vehicles at all times. The Grand Marshall will not be an individual this year but will be all of our local “Health Care Heroes and First Responders”.
Please note that the Lions Club will have Santa Claus on a float at the end of the parade and prefers having only one Santa Claus in the parade. The Calvert City Lions Club float along with Santa Claus will be located at the exit near City Hall.
Because of safety concerns, no horses are allowed in the parade or along the parade route. Also, due to COVID-19 considerations, Santa will be on his sleigh in the parade, but will not meet at the civic center and the Calvert City Lions Club will not provide drinks or hot dogs after the parade.
Questions concerning this event need to be directed to parade chairperson Terry Davis at 270-703-7009.
