was operating left the roadway and struck a utility pole at the intersection of Guthrie Lane and Boat Werks Lane, at approximately 2 a.m. on, Sunday, May 21, 2023. According to a news release from Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Jacob Estes, 31, of Benton was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (aggravating circumstance), manslaughter second degree, driving on DUI suspended license (aggravating circumstance), wanton endangerment first degree, and other all-terrain vehicle violations.

According to the release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Estes has been convicted of DUI four times since 2010.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hilbrecht said Estes just showed up at a graduation party at a home near the crash site and asked if anyone wanted to go for a ride. He had two passengers on the ATV at the time of the crash, Grace McKnight, 18, of Paducah and Landon O’Nan, 23, of Paducah.

According to the report Estes lost control of the ATV left the road and hit a utility pole in a local campground near the home where the graduation party was being held. McKnight and O’Nan were thrown from the ATV. McKnight was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. O’Nan was transported to Marshall County Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Estes was also transported to the hospital and later released. He was then placed in Marshall County’s Herman Ford Detention Center.
